Linen shirts for humid cities
Weight, weave and cut decide whether linen works in humidity. We wore nine shirts through a monsoon to find out.

Fabric weight is the specification that matters and the one least often published. Below about 150gsm linen becomes translucent. Above about 180gsm it stops breathing well enough to justify choosing it over cotton.
The 160 to 175 band
Every shirt that performed well in this test sat in that range. It is heavy enough to hang properly and light enough to move air.
Cut matters as much as cloth
A slim-cut linen shirt defeats the purpose. Linen cools by letting air move between fabric and skin, and a close cut removes that gap. The two best shirts here are cut with deliberate room through the body.
What to check before buying
Hold it to the light for weave density. Check whether the collar is sewn or fused. And check the back length, because linen shrinks and a short back hem only gets shorter.
